We're not all sleeping

OK, blogging is hard and I haven't been able to keep up. But it looks like the press may be turning around on Congo coverage. The election coming up means the Congo will be a big story again, at least for a little while.

Check out this week's Time...

Also, much respect to Black River Eagle over at Jewels in the Jungle for this beautiful post. And thank you for your support, BRE and Ingrid. We are working hard and should be done by September. Keep updated at gomafilmproject.org.

No need to apologize Lou, you're a budding documentary filmmaker, producer, director, & screenwriter___ not a prolific blogger (yet). We thank you for the wonderful work you and the Goma Film Project team has done down in the eastern DRC and in the blogosphere to date.

I want to leave a comment at CNN's Anderson Cooper 360° blog re: Jeff Koinange's features on Bukavu, but I think you should do it also. There has been a HUGE response to the story and the related CNN blog posts from the U.S. CNN audience and website visitors.

I am afraid that many people are unaware that there are other programs in the Kivus to help victims of rape and torture, and you are better informed about them than me. Ref: Jeff Koinange's latest post to the AC 360° blog for June 1st titled, "Congo doctor heartened by Americans response".

I think that your input at the CNN blog will help even more people to become aware of the situation in the eastern DRC and the important work of independent filmmakers down there to help draw the world's attention to the crisis.

No need to feel guilty about a "shameless self-promotion" for the film LUMO, as I'm certain that Jeff and Andy would be appreciative of your input at their blog.

LOu, as you know, we are all supporting you, and we are all very proud of the work you are doing with the documentary. As a Congolese person, I cannot thank you enough for trying to bring this story to people outside the country, in such a powerful way. So don't appologize, you are doing a lot. Keep up the good work!!

I am serving as a Peace Corps volunteer Cameroon until December 2007. My post is near Yaounde and Daouala. Let me know if you will be in Cameroon. It would be great to see you.

Best of luck and take care,

Dear Louis, I just saw the CNN Inside Africa program today (Nov 4, 2007) that featured a trailer from your documentary film "Lumo" and the interview with you and Nelson Walker. I then went over to the PBS P.O.V. website to checkout all the information that they have on the film, the filmmakers, and the crisis with violent rape and fistula patients in the eastern DRC.

I can't tell you how surprised and excited I was to learn that the Goma Film Project crew had finally found a major distributor (PBS P.O.V.) and channel to show your wonderful work highlighting the story of women and girls who have suffered from mass rape as a weapon of war in eastern Congo.

It took CNN (including CNN Inside Africa) more than a year to wakeup to the fact that the documentary Lumo even existed (see my original comment to this post). As usual, the blogosphere is way ahead of the traditional commercial media on breaking news stories and important news features that really count.

Congratulations on getting Lumo aired at PBS and I hope that you are still monitoring comments from your abandoned blog, Telegraphe Congolais. I'm gonna notify Ali the Malau right away at his blog.
